So, we were very disappointed to see more cotton candy growing on our bench wall when we took a peek. That made the decision for us that we would rip out the bench seat to see what was going on. Frightened we would find an outer wall full of mold, we cautiously removed the bench.
PHEW! Not as bad as we thought, but, the wood is wet and beyond repair, at least at the bottom of the back. There was a spot of black...black mold? Not sure. The carpet was dry but one area had the same black...which cleaned up fine.
We toyed with the idea of rebuilding the bench, or a least, replacing the parts that were ruined. But, instead we opted for a new office chair. Since Jo spends so much time at the computer, it made the most sense.
Keep an eye out for our friend fungus!
After further inspecting the exterior wall and surrounding areas, we determined that water had gotten inside (between the bench and wall) from an open window. Last month, while in Louisiana, we had copious amounts of rain with brief periods of mild weather. It was during the mild weather that the window adjacent the bench had been left open once or twice when the rain resumed. Also, as previously mentioned in other posts, condensation during colder days added to this issue. Besides, I think Jo will be much more comfortable with the new set-up.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had so many mold problems. As Joanne always said, "Everything happens for a reason." ergo a nice new chair. My only question is what does everyone else sit on?
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is usually only one person sat on the bench anyway, with the computer there, and a printer below, and usually papers and books on the seat. We have the other bench, this chair and two stools for the counter top...so we make it work. Hoping to eat outside more often anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd, we can still make the bed. We have a small storage cube, and will buy one more, that will fit just perfectly as support for the left side of the table. Steve will also add a strip to the wall to place the plywood that used to be on the bench. Add the cushions and we have our spare bed!
